Ride Instructions

Joining A Ride

Our rides usually start from various locations within the Stockport or South Manchester area, but occasional rides start from further afield. If you’d like to try a ride with us, then we’d love to hear from you. Your first ride is free. Please email info@sccc.co.uk to find out more.

You can then attend as many or as few rides as you like, subject to availability. Each ride will cost you £2 and regular riders can take advantage of the annual fee of £30 which gives you unlimited rides.

What You Need To Bring

We suggest you bring a bottle of water, a small amount of money for coffee and food, a snack bar or fruit and a waterproof as the absolute basics. You will also need a spare inner tube – punctures happen. Don’t worry so much about tyre levers, Allen keys and so on as the leaders will have these with them. But if you decide that you like cycling then you can add to your kit as you go along.

Generally, it’s a good idea, especially if you’ve not ridden for a long while, to try and keep what you carry to a minimum. Heavy rucksacks aren’t a good idea as they may unbalance you and make you feel hot. A good pannier or top bag is a useful investment but not necessary at first.

Ride Etiquette

Numbers are limited on each ride and subject to availability. You can only attend a ride if you booked your attendance through the Spond app. If you have booked on a ride but then find you cannot attend, please contact the ride leader so we know not to wait for you. Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the ride, so we are ready to leave on time and we don’t keep other people waiting, especially if it’s cold and wet. While riding, always follow the highway code and signal if you’re turning left or right.

Follow the leaders if they ask you to cross roads via a designated crossing. On main and busy roads, it’s best to keep in single file. Be patient, sometimes it takes a while for everyone in the group to get across roads safely. Wait until we’re all together before moving on. Don’t ride ahead of the front leader or behind the back leader. If you decide to leave the ride before the finish, please let the back leader know in advance.
