MONSAL DALE TRAIL

The Monsal Dale Trail near Bakewell has always looked appealing except for one problem – four closed tunnels meaning a big detour.  Peak Park is now opening up the tunnels as outlined in the following article.  A probable ride for the future.

The Trail is now fully open and provides an interesting ride with several lit tunnels.  Please bear in mind though that it runs slightly downhill from the Buxton end so it may be better to do it from the Bakewell end (or Hassop station) so you have a downhill run back.

The Monsal Trail is built on the route of the former Midland Railway Line, which closed in 1968.
